Amani participated in a number of high profile events during the UN General assembly which is held annually in New York during the third week of September. Given the influx of the global business community and multitude of world leaders in New York during this time, there are also numerous side events and forums for public and private organization. These programs provide an important opportunity for key stakeholders to come together and share ideas, including best practices on country level programs and development insights linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Amani was able to attend a number of programs and meet with key government officials interested in the model healthcare system and unique health worker program that Amani has established in Idjwi Island.

During this busy period know officially as ‘UNGA’, we also attended the Concordia Annual Summit a two-day annual program that brings together decision-makers and opinion-formers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors, as well as the next generation of partnership-builders. The Annual Summit works to advance critical global discussions and transform conversations into action. The event is also a great networking vehicle and opportunity to connect with the business community interested in key issues linked health and other areas including efforts to mobilize for equality, the fight for gender rights and the future of work. Some of the diverse speakers included, actress and activist, Jameela Jamil and President of the African Development Bank, Hon. Akinwumi Adesina.

Amani was also invited and attend a special dialogue and program entitled, Data for Health Equity:Unlocking Health for All sponsored by Rockefeller Foundation and UNICEF featuring a deep dive discussion on the issue of data. The program also included insight and remarks from Dr. Raj Shah, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, Henrietta Fore, Executive Director of UNICEF, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Dr. Seth Berkley from GAVI, as well as Dr. Jane Aceng from the Ministry of Health in Uganda.
